Cheek Piercing Jewellery

Cheek Piercing Jewellery at SkinKandy

A cheek piercing, sometimes called a dimple piercing, sits through the cheek and is fitted with an internally threaded barbell at 14G, in a length of 12mm to 16mm. A 4mm flat disc is used on the inside of the piercing to create a flatback finish against the inner cheek. It's available in Surgical Steel, Titanium and 14K Gold, fitted as part of your piercing. This collection covers both fresh piercings and healed top upgrades.

What jewellery is used for a cheek piercing?

Cheek piercings use an internally threaded barbell, fitted at 14G in a length of 12mm to 16mm to suit the thickness of your cheek. A 4mm flat disc sits on the inside of the piercing, creating a flatback finish that's comfortable against the inner cheek and gums. The outer side carries the visible top, which is what most of the design detail sits on. Your piercing specialist measures your cheek to fit the correct length before piercing.

What size is cheek piercing jewellery?

Cheek barbells are fitted at 14G, in a length of 12mm to 16mm depending on your anatomy, with a 4mm flat disc used on the inside. Getting the length right matters more for cheek piercings than many other placements, since a bar that's too short can be uncomfortable against the inside of the mouth, while one that's too long may sit loosely. Your piercing specialist measures and confirms the correct length before fitting. Length may be adjusted once initial swelling settles.

Is surgical steel safe for a fresh cheek piercing?

Yes, Surgical Steel is what our piercing specialists use for fresh cheek piercings in studio, and it's a safe, valid choice while you heal. It does contain trace nickel, so it isn't hypoallergenic, and Titanium or 14K Gold are better suited if you have sensitive skin. Do not remove your jewellery during the healing phase, as this can cause the piercing to close and make reinsertion difficult. Cheek piercings involve both skin and the inside of the mouth, so your piercing specialist will cover care for both sides in detail.

How do I care for a healing cheek piercing?

Clean the outer side of the piercing as directed by your piercing specialist, using a saline solution rather than any product applied directly to the jewellery. Rinse your mouth with an alcohol-free mouthwash after eating to keep the inside of the piercing clean, as advised by your piercing specialist. Avoid touching the piercing with unwashed hands, and be mindful of the bar when eating or talking in the first few weeks. Our aftercare guide has more general aftercare information.

How does a cheek piercing compare to a dahlia piercing?

A cheek piercing sits through the cheek itself, fitted with an internally threaded barbell at 14G in a 12mm to 16mm length. A dahlia piercing sits at the corner of the mouth, using a similar internally threaded barbell at 14G but in a shorter 10mm to 14mm length. Both use a 4mm flat disc on the inside for a flatback finish, but the placement and jewellery length differ to suit each spot. Your piercing specialist can help you decide which placement suits your face.
