What ID to bring to your piercing appointment
We love helping you achieve your piercing goals, and before we start, we just need to check a couple of age and ID details. These rules keep you safe, keep us compliant with legislation, and are part of our commitment to safe and professional piercings. Not sure about something? Our piercers are always happy to help.
The quick version, you’ll need photo ID if
- You look under 25 — so we can confirm you’re old enough for your piercing.
- You’re the parent or guardian giving consent — we’ll always sight your photo ID.
- You’re booking a restricted 18+ piercing — photo ID every time, no exceptions.

A note on your state: some requirements vary by location. In WA, you’ll need to be 18 to consent to a piercing yourself — except needle-free (cartridge) lobe piercings, which you can consent to from 16. In QLD, a parent can sometimes give consent by phone. Our team will let you know exactly what’s needed when you book.
When you'll need to show ID.
You’re a consenting parent or legal guardian.
You must be the legal guardian to consent to a piercing on behalf of a minor. If your child is under 16 (under 18 in WA — though needle-free lobe piercings can be self-consented from 16), you’ll give consent and stay in the studio for the appointment. Please bring your own photo ID; your name will need to match the consent form. There’s
no need to bring ID for your child — we’ll simply confirm their date of birth with you on the day.
Advanced piercings, 16–17.
A parent or guardian still needs to give consent, but they don’t have to be there on the day — they can complete and sign the consent form in advance. We’ll sight their photo ID, and their name will need to match the consent form.
All piercings, 16+ (18+ in WA).
Once you’re 16, you can consent to a standard piercing yourself. If you look under 25, we’ll ask for photo ID that confirms your name, date of birth and photo. That can be one ID showing all three, or two that together cover name, DOB and photo (for example, a school ID plus a birth certificate).
Restricted 18+ piercings.
Nipple and genital piercings are for ages 18+ only, and photo ID is always required — no exceptions. It must be an original or shown through an official government app; photos or pictures of a licence can’t be accepted.
Foster or formal care arrangements
If you’re a child’s formal carer or guardian rather than their parent, you can give consent in the same way a parent would, using your own photo ID. We’ll just need to see a formal care letter or court order confirming your legal authority, and a photo of it emailed to customerservice@skinkandy.com for our records — you’re welcome to send this yourself and simply show us once it’s done. Foster care arrangements also require written approval from the relevant department before the piercing can go ahead.
