Piercing Prep:

Essential Tips for your next piercing

Getting a piercing is an exciting and personal way to express yourself. Whether it's your first piercing or an addition to your collection, proper preparation is crucial to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Let’s talk about some key precautions that you should take to make sure you are ready for your next piercing.

Avoid Alcohol up to 8 hours before

Avoid drinking excessive amounts of Alcohol up to 8 hours before your piercing. Alcohol is a blood thinner and will affect how much you bleed when getting pierced. Increased bleeding can complicate the procedure and prolong the healing time. To ensure a smoother experience, it's best to abstain from alcohol before your appointment.

Consider all current Medications and Health Conditions

If you are taking any medications for skin conditions, heart conditions, blood thinners, or if you have recently undergone surgery or given birth, it is crucial to consult with your doctor before getting a piercing. Certain medications and health conditions may interfere with the healing process. Additionally, if you are on antibiotics, we recommend you postpone the piercing until you have completed the medication course. If you are on Roaccutane, it is best to wait until you have finished the Roaccutane treatment, as it can cause affect the healing process. It's always better to be in optimal health so that your body can focus on healing the piercing effectively.

Eat up to Four Hours Before Your Appointment

To ensure your body is adequately prepared for the piercing process, make sure you eat a balanced meal at least four hours before your appointment. Focus on consuming foods rich in carbohydrates and sugars to provide your body with the necessary energy levels during the procedure. Avoid skipping meals, as this can lead to low blood sugar levels and increase the likelihood of fainting during the procedure.

What if I Faint?

If you have a history of fainting or feeling lightheaded during medical procedures, it's crucial to inform your piercer beforehand. They can take extra precautions to ensure your comfort and well-being throughout the process.

Should you use Numbing Cream?

Choosing to use numbing cream is a personal choice and ok to use before your piercing. Be aware that some numbing creams can change the texture and tension of the skin, potentially affecting the precision of the piercing. It's essential to have a conversation with your piercer before your piercing and let them know if you have used numbing cream.

How Many Piercings Can I Get At Once?

While it's exciting to get multiple piercings in one session, be mindful of your body's healing capacity. At SkinKandy, we limit the number of piercings to a maximum of four in one session depending on your individual circumstances and anatomy. Overloading your system with too many piercings at once can affect your bodies healing process. By giving each piercing adequate time to heal, you can reduce the chances of infection, swelling, and discomfort. If you wish to get more piercings, we recommend waiting a few weeks between appointments.

What Form of ID Should I Bring?

Make sure you have the correct ID on you for your appointment. You will be asked to write your ID type and number on your consent form before your procedure. Our staff may also ask to see your ID as part of the consent process so please have it handy. Parents & guardians will be asked to show a Medicare card or similar (see below) as a way of confirming your relationship to the child being pierced.
