Horseshoe jewellery at SkinKandy

Horseshoe piercing jewellery, also known as circular barbells, is a versatile style that works across multiple piercings including septum, rook, anti-tragus and lip placements. A horseshoe nose ring is worn through the septum, so horseshoe nose piercing jewellery is one of the most popular ways to wear this style. SkinKandy's horseshoe range comes in Titanium, Surgical Steel and 14kt Gold, so you can pick a material and finish that suits your style. It's one of the most popular jewellery shapes for anyone who likes a clean, symmetrical look.

What piercings can I wear a horseshoe in?

Horseshoes are one of the most versatile jewellery styles around. They're commonly worn in septum piercings at 16G or 14G, in rook and anti-tragus piercings at 16G, and in lip piercings like vertical labrets. The two visible ball ends give a balanced, symmetrical appearance that works whether you're going for something subtle or bold. Your piercing specialist can recommend the best size and gauge for your specific placement.

What size horseshoe do I need?

Size depends on your placement and anatomy. For septum piercings, 8mm and 10mm are the most common diameters in 16G or 14G. Anti-tragus and rook horseshoes are typically 16G with a diameter that suits the curve of your ear. Getting the right fit matters because a horseshoe that's too large can snag, while one that's too small may put pressure on the piercing. Visit your nearest SkinKandy studio if you need help finding your size.

What's the difference between a horseshoe and a segment ring?

A horseshoe has two visible ball or cone ends with an opening between them, giving it a curved, open shape. A segment ring clicks shut to form a continuous circle with no visible gap. Both styles work in similar placements like the septum and rook. It really comes down to personal preference and the look you're going for.

Which material should I choose for a horseshoe?

Titanium is the best option if your piercing is still healing or if you have sensitive skin. It's nickel-free and lightweight, which makes it comfortable for everyday wear. Surgical Steel can also be used in fresh piercings, though it contains trace nickel and isn't hypoallergenic, while 14kt Gold adds a premium finish. If you're not sure which material is right for you, a piercing specialist can point you in the right direction.

How do I care for my piercing while wearing a horseshoe?

Follow your aftercare routine and avoid twisting or rotating the jewellery, especially during healing. Horseshoes can be tempting to fiddle with because of the ball ends, but leaving them alone will help your piercing heal properly. Make sure the balls are screwed on securely so they don't loosen throughout the day. If anything feels off, pop into your local studio for a check.
