What ID to bring to your piercing appointment

We love helping you achieve your piercing goals, but before we start, we need to make sure all age and ID requirements are met. These rules are in place to protect you, ensure compliance with legislation, and uphold our commitment to safe, professional piercing across Australia and New Zealand.

Age & Consent Guide.

5 years+ 1st Lobe (Needle) Parent or Guardian Consent
10 years+ 2nd Lobes Parent or Guardian Consent
13 years+ Standard Needle Piercings Parent or Guardian Consent
16 years+ Standard Needle Piercings No Parental Consent Required
16–17 years Advanced Piercings No Parental Consent Required
18 years+ All & Restricted (Nipple) No Parental Consent Accepted

When you'll need to show ID.

Lobe Piercings (Cartridge) – Ages 6 months to 15 years

  • Parent/guardian must attend and provide photo ID.
  • Proof of guardianship (e.g. birth certificate).

Standard Needle Piercings – Ages 5–15

  • Parent/guardian must consent in person.
  • Child must show ID confirming name and DOB.

All Piercings – 16+

You must be 16 years and over to receive a piercing without parental consent. If you are over 16 you will be asked to provide ID that confirms your NAME, DOB and PHOTO. This can be either be one form of ID showing your Name, DOB and Photo OR 2 forms of ID which confirm these requirements (eg: a formal school ID that shows Name and Photo AND a birth certificate that shows matching Name and DOB).

Restricted 18+ years Piercings

  • This must be an original copy or through an official government app - pictures or photos of licences etc will not be accepted.

  • Applies to nipple piercings.

When do I need to show ID?

At SkinKandy we take our responsibility to protect the safety of our customers seriously. We're committed to ensuring that legislated requirements regarding age and consent are upheld, meaning you may be asked to provide proof of age and/or guardianship prior to your piercing procedure.

Proving Parental or Guardian Relationship

You must be the legal parent or guardian and sign a consent form before the procedure.

We may ask for documentation confirming your relationship.

Accepted proof includes:

  • Formal School ID
  • Birth certificate showing both names

Accepted forms of ID.

Accepted ID Details
Driver’s / Rider’s / Marine Licence Current or expired within 12 months
Proof of Age / Photo ID Card The Kiwi Access Card, previously known as the 18+ Card
Passport / Visa / Immicard New Zealand or International
School ID or Portal Login Must include name, photo, and DOB
Firearms or Shooter’s Licence Valid with name, photo, and DOB

No single photo ID?

Show two forms that together confirm name, DOB, and photo (e.g. student ID + birth certificate).
