SkinKandy's tragus jewellery collection features pieces specifically suited to this popular cartilage piercing. Tragus piercings sit on the small flap of cartilage that covers your ear canal, and they look great with flatback studs, segment rings and horseshoe rings. You'll find options in implant grade Titanium, Surgical Steel and 14kt Gold across a range of designs to suit every style.

What jewellery styles work best for a tragus piercing?

Flatback studs are the most popular and recommended style for tragus piercings. The flat disc sits comfortably against the back of the cartilage, which means there's no ball that could press into your ear canal or risk falling in. Once your tragus is fully healed, you can also explore segment rings and horseshoe rings for a different look. Ballback styles aren't recommended for the tragus because the ball end can cause discomfort inside the ear.

What gauge and size is tragus piercing jewellery?

Tragus piercings use 16G jewellery exclusively, with post lengths of 6mm or 8mm. A longer 8mm post is typically used for fresh piercings to allow room for swelling, and you'll downsize to 6mm once healing is underway. Getting the right length is important for comfort and healing, so visit one of our studios if you need help finding your size. Our piercing specialists can measure your piercing and recommend the perfect fit.

How long does a tragus piercing take to heal?

Tragus piercings typically take 6 to 12 months to fully heal, like most cartilage piercings. During this time, stick with the flatback your piercing specialist fitted and follow your aftercare routine closely. Avoid sleeping directly on the piercing side and try not to touch it with unwashed hands. Once your piercing is fully healed, you'll have plenty of options for switching up your style.

Can I wear earbuds with a tragus piercing?

You can, but it's best to avoid earbuds during the initial healing period. Earbuds can press against the jewellery and cause irritation or introduce bacteria to a healing piercing. Over-ear headphones are a better option while your tragus heals. Once it's fully healed and you've downsized to a snug-fitting flatback, most people find they can wear earbuds comfortably again. Read our tragus piercing guide for more tips on living with your new piercing.

What material should I choose for a tragus piercing?

Implant grade Titanium is the top recommendation for fresh tragus piercings because it's lightweight, hypoallergenic and comes in a variety of colours. If you have sensitive skin, Titanium or 14kt Gold are your safest options. Surgical Steel is also suitable for healed tragus piercings, though it does contain trace nickel so it's not ideal if you're prone to metal sensitivities. Choose a material that works for your skin and your style.
