Daith earrings are jewellery designed for a daith piercing, which passes through the innermost fold of cartilage in your ear, just above the ear canal.
Types of daith jewellery
-
Segment rings: a hinged ring that follows the curve of the daith fold, with decorative clickers and embellished rings to choose from once you're healed.
-
Curved barbells: a curved bar with a ball at each end, suited to the shape of the daith.
-
Horseshoe rings: an open-ended curved bar that sits in the daith fold.

What gauge and size is daith piercing jewellery?
Daith piercings are fitted with 16G jewellery, with ring diameters typically ranging from 8mm to 10mm depending on your ear anatomy. Your piercing specialist will choose the right diameter during your appointment to make sure the ring sits comfortably without being too tight or too loose. If you're shopping for a new daith ring, our studios can measure your piercing and recommend the best size. Flatback posts aren't suitable for this placement due to the anatomy involved.
How long does a daith piercing take to heal?
Daith piercings typically take 3 to 9 months to fully heal. During healing, follow your aftercare routine and avoid putting pressure on the piercing by sleeping on that side. Try not to twist or rotate the jewellery, and keep the area clean with a saline solution. Our daith piercing guide covers everything you need to know about the healing process and what to expect along the way.
Can I wear earbuds or headphones with a daith piercing?
Earbuds that sit inside the ear canal (like AirPods) can press against a daith piercing and cause discomfort, especially during healing. Over-ear headphones are a much better option while your piercing heals. Once fully healed, some people find they can wear certain earbuds comfortably depending on the size of their jewellery and ear anatomy. It's worth trying different earbud styles to see what works for you, but err on the side of caution during the healing period.
What material is best for a daith piercing?
Implant grade Titanium is the recommended material for fresh daith piercings because it's lightweight. If you have sensitive skin, Titanium and 14K Gold are your safest choices. Surgical Steel can be used in daith piercings, including fresh ones, though it can contain traces of nickel, so Titanium or Gold are better if you have a nickel sensitivity. Our piercing specialists can help you pick the right material for your needs.
How does a segment ring compare to a curved barbell for a daith?
A segment ring is a hinged hoop that closes into a loop through the piercing, while a curved barbell is a curved bar with a ball at each end. Both suit the daith, and a horseshoe ring is a third option with an open end. Which one suits you depends on your ear anatomy and how your piercing sits, so our piercing specialists can talk you through it in studio.
