SkinKandy's labret piercing jewellery collection is made for lip and lower face piercings that sit below the bottom lip. The labret is a versatile placement that looks great with flatback posts, segment rings and horseshoe rings. You'll find pieces in implant grade Titanium, Surgical Steel and Gold, designed for both fresh and healed labret piercings.

What jewellery styles suit a labret piercing?

Flatback posts are the most common and recommended style for labret piercings. The flat disc sits comfortably against the inside of your lip, reducing irritation to your teeth and gums. Once your labret is fully healed, you can also wear segment rings or horseshoe rings for a different aesthetic. The right style depends on your anatomy and personal taste, and our piercing specialists can guide you through the options.

What gauge and size is labret piercing jewellery?

Labret piercings are fitted with 16G jewellery, typically in 8mm or 10mm post lengths. A longer post is used for fresh piercings to accommodate swelling, and you'll downsize to a shorter length once the initial swelling goes down. Downsizing usually happens around 6 to 12 weeks after your piercing. Getting the right fit matters for oral piercings, so visit one of our studios when it's time to size down.

How long does a labret piercing take to heal?

Labret piercings are typically ready for a downsize at 6 to 12 weeks, with full healing taking a minimum of 4 months. During healing, follow your aftercare routine and avoid playing with the jewellery using your tongue or teeth. Oral piercings tend to heal relatively quickly compared to cartilage, but it's still important to be patient and let the process run its course. Our lip piercing guide has more detail on what to expect.

What material is best for a labret piercing?

Implant grade Titanium is the top pick for fresh labret piercings because it's biocompatible, lightweight and hypoallergenic. If you have sensitive skin, Titanium or 14kt Gold are your safest options. Surgical Steel is suitable for healed labret piercings but does contain trace nickel, so it's not ideal for anyone with metal sensitivities. Your piercing specialist will help you choose the right material at your appointment.

Can a labret piercing damage your teeth or gums?

Properly fitted jewellery significantly reduces the risk of damage to your teeth and gums. That's why downsizing to a snug-fitting flatback is so important once your swelling goes down. Jewellery that's too long can rub against your gums or knock against your teeth over time. Regular check-ins with your piercing specialist help make sure your jewellery fits well and sits comfortably. Choosing quality materials and the right style goes a long way toward keeping your oral health in check.
