Jestrum Jewellery at SkinKandy

Jestrum jewellery at SkinKandy is piercing jewellery for the jestrum piercing, a vertical piercing through the philtrum above the top lip. It's worn as a curved barbell, fitted at 16G in 8mm or 10mm lengths, in Titanium and Surgical Steel. This placement suits people who want a bold, symmetrical piercing centred above the lip, sitting alongside placements like philtrum and vertical labret piercings in the same facial area. Whether you're piercing for the first time or restyling a healed jestrum, we've got the sizing sorted.

What jewellery is used for a jestrum piercing?

A jestrum piercing is worn with a curved barbell, fitted at 16G in a length of 8mm or 10mm depending on your anatomy. The curve of the barbell follows the vertical angle of the piercing, running from the philtrum area up towards the nose, which is different to the horizontal angle of a standard philtrum piercing. Not every face has enough tissue for a jestrum piercing to sit safely, so a consultation with a piercing specialist is the best way to check if you're a good candidate. Our piercing specialists assess your anatomy in studio before piercing to confirm the jestrum is right for you.

What gauge and length do I need for a jestrum piercing?

Jestrum jewellery is fitted at 16G, with a curved barbell length of 8mm or 10mm depending on your anatomy. A longer bar is usually fitted at the time of piercing to allow room for swelling, then downsized once the area has settled. If the bar is too short it can put pressure on the piercing, and if it's too long it can shift and catch on your lip or teeth. Our piercing specialists measure the placement in studio before fitting your first barbell.

What materials are jestrum barbells available in?

Jestrum jewellery at SkinKandy is available in Titanium and Surgical Steel. Surgical Steel is used for fresh piercings in studio, though it contains trace nickel, so Titanium is the better choice if your skin tends to be sensitive. Titanium is lightweight and a reliable pick while your jestrum piercing heals, since it puts less pressure on the placement. Both materials are safe, sterile options for this piercing, so the choice mostly comes down to comfort and sensitivity.

Jestrum vs vertical labret, what's the difference?

A jestrum piercing sits vertically through the philtrum above the top lip, while a vertical labret piercing sits vertically through the lower lip instead. Both use a 16G curved barbell at 8mm or 10mm, so the sizing is the same, but the placement and the way the jewellery sits on your face are quite different. Jestrum piercings show more of the jewellery above the lip, while vertical labrets show a small bead below the lip and inside the mouth. Our piercing specialists can help you decide which placement suits your face and lifestyle.

How long does a jestrum piercing take to heal?

Jestrum piercings generally take several months to fully heal, similar to other lip and mouth-area piercings, so patience with your aftercare routine matters. Do not remove your jewellery during the healing phase, and clean the area as directed by your piercing specialists to avoid irritation. Keep an eye on the placement for excess swelling in the first few weeks, and avoid touching the jewellery with unwashed hands.
