Kids Earrings at SkinKandy

Kids earrings at SkinKandy are lobe piercing jewellery designed for children's ears, so whether you're shopping for children's earrings or earrings for kids, you'll find options in Titanium, Surgical Steel and Gold. They're fitted at 18G or 20G, the standard gauge for a first lobe piercing, in gentle stud and small hoop styles. This collection suits parents booking a child's first ear piercing as well as kids restyling an already healed lobe. Our piercing specialists take extra care with younger clients, guiding both parents and kids through sizing, materials and aftercare.

What jewellery styles are suitable for kids' ear piercings?

Kid's Earrings are mostly studs and small hoops, fitted for lobe piercings, which is the placement we recommend for younger clients. Simple stud designs with a secure backing are the most practical option for a child's first piercing, since they're low profile and less likely to catch on clothing or hair. Larger hoops and huggies are better suited to healed piercings once a child is comfortable managing their own jewellery. Our piercing specialists guide both parents and kids through choosing a first design that's comfortable and easy to care for.

What gauge is used for kids' ear piercings?

Kids' lobe piercings are fitted at 18G or 20G, the same standard gauge used for adult first lobe piercings. This gauge is fine enough to be comfortable on a child's smaller ears while still being a secure, standard size for future jewellery changes. Getting the gauge right matters, since a piece that's too tight or too loose can cause irritation on a piercing that's still healing. Our piercing specialists always confirm sizing with parents before piercing.

What materials are safest for kids' ear piercings?

Titanium and Gold are our top recommendations for kids' ear piercings, since neither carries the trace nickel found in Surgical Steel, which makes them a gentler choice for young, sensitive skin. Surgical Steel is still a valid option and one our piercing specialists use for piercings in studio, but if a child has any known nickel sensitivity, Titanium or Gold are the safer long-term choice. Titanium earrings for kids and kids earrings in gold are both lightweight, which helps a first piercing feel comfortable rather than heavy on a small ear. Our piercing specialists can talk parents through the material options before booking.

Studs vs hoops, what's better for a child's first piercing?

Studs are the better choice for a child's first piercing, since they sit flush against the ear and are less likely to snag on hair, clothing or bedding than a hoop. Hoops and huggies are a great option once a lobe piercing is fully healed and a child is old enough to manage changing their own jewellery safely. Small hoops such as kids sleepers also suit a healed lobe piercing. Studs also make it easier for parents to keep the piercing clean during the healing phase, since there's less movement around the piercing. Our piercing specialists recommend starting with a simple stud and moving to hoops later on if your child wants to.

How long does a child's ear piercing take to heal and how do I care for it?

Lobe piercings typically take 6 to 12 weeks to heal, and this timeline is the same for children as it is for adults. Do not remove the jewellery during the healing phase, and clean the area twice daily as directed by our piercing specialists. Keep an eye out for any redness or irritation, and avoid letting your child twist or fidget with the earring more than necessary. For full guidance, our aftercare page covers cleaning and healing step by step, and our piercing info page has more on what to expect at your child's appointment.
