Nose Studs at SkinKandy

SkinKandy's Nose Stud collection covers nostril and high nostril placements, in L-bend, nose twist and flatback styles, available in Surgical Steel, Titanium and 14K Gold. Nostril studs are fitted at 18G or 20G, while high nostril studs sit at 16G. This collection covers both fresh piercings and healed upgrades. Whether you're after a subtle L-bend or a decorative twist, sizing and style vary by exact placement.

What nose stud styles are available?

L-bend studs sit flush with an angled post, designed to hold securely without a back piece. Nose twists follow the curve of the nostril for easy insertion and removal by your piercing specialist. Flatback studs give a similar low-profile finish with a flat disc back, and are the style used for high nostril piercings. Your piercing specialist can recommend the right style based on your piercing and how it's healing.

What gauge is a nose stud?

Nostril studs are fitted at 18G or 20G, while high nostril piercings are the exception, fitted at 16G in an 8mm flatback rather than the smaller nostril gauge. This difference in gauge is one reason nostril and high nostril studs aren't interchangeable, even though both sit on the nose. Your piercing specialist will confirm the exact gauge for your specific piercing before fitting any new stud.

Is surgical steel safe for a fresh nose stud?

Yes, Surgical Steel is what our piercing specialists use for fresh nostril piercings in studio, and it's a safe, valid choice while you heal. It does contain trace nickel, so it isn't hypoallergenic, and Titanium or 14K Gold are better suited if you have sensitive skin. Do not remove your jewellery during the healing phase, as this can cause the piercing to close and make reinsertion difficult. Your piercing specialist can advise on switching materials once your piercing is ready.

How do I care for a healing nose stud?

Clean the piercing as directed by your piercing specialist, using a saline solution rather than any product applied directly to the jewellery. Surgical Steel and Titanium both resist corrosion well, holding up to daily wear while you heal. Avoid catching the stud on clothing or face masks, and keep makeup away from the piercing site in the early weeks. Our aftercare guide covers the full routine for nose piercings.

How does a nose stud compare to a nose ring?

A nose stud sits close to the skin with a fixed post, fitted at 18G or 20G for nostril placements, and it's the typical starting jewellery for a fresh piercing. A nose ring is a bendable or segment ring style, usually introduced once your piercing has healed. Studs give a smaller, more subtle finish, while rings offer more of a visible hoop shape. Your piercing specialist can confirm when your piercing is ready to move from a stud to a ring.
