Silver Earrings at SkinKandy

SkinKandy's silver-tone earring collection features cool-toned studs and flatbacks for lobe and cartilage placements like tragus and helix. These pieces are crafted in Surgical Steel or Titanium with a silver-tone finish, rather than genuine sterling silver, since sterling silver isn't a metal our piercing specialists use for fresh piercings. This keeps the cool, silver-like look while staying within materials that are safe for long-term wear. This collection covers both fresh piercings and healed upgrades.

What are silver-tone earrings made from?

Silver-tone earrings in this collection are made from Surgical Steel or Titanium, both of which give a cool, silver-like finish without the tarnishing that comes with genuine sterling silver. Surgical Steel is what our piercing specialists use for fresh piercings in studio, while Titanium is the better choice if you have sensitive skin, since it doesn't carry the trace nickel found in Surgical Steel. Both materials are durable enough for everyday wear. Neither requires the polishing that genuine silver jewellery typically needs.

What size are silver-tone earrings available in?

Lobe studs are fitted at 18G or 20G, while cartilage flatbacks for tragus, helix and conch are fitted at 16G, most commonly at 6mm or 8mm once healed. Sizing follows the same placement-specific gauges as the rest of our range, since the silver tone is a finish rather than a change to the piercing itself. Your piercing specialist will confirm the correct gauge and length for your placement before fitting any new piece.

Can silver-tone earrings be worn in a fresh piercing?

Yes, Surgical Steel studs and flatbacks are safe for fresh piercings and are what our piercing specialists use in studio. Titanium is also a safe option for fresh piercings if you'd rather avoid the trace nickel found in Surgical Steel. Do not remove your jewellery during the healing phase, as this can cause the piercing to close and make reinsertion difficult. Your piercing specialist can talk you through material options at your appointment.

How do I care for silver-tone earrings?

Clean the piercing as advised by your piercing specialist, using a saline solution rather than any product applied directly to the jewellery. Surgical Steel and Titanium both resist corrosion well, so the silver-tone finish holds up without special polishing. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products coming into contact with the jewellery where possible. This is more low-maintenance than genuine sterling silver, which tends to tarnish over time.

Should I choose silver-tone or gold earrings?

Silver-tone earrings in Surgical Steel or Titanium give a cool finish that pairs well with other steel or titanium pieces in your stack. Gold earrings in 14K Gold give a warmer finish and don't need re-plating over time, unlike genuine silver. Both are available in the same lobe and cartilage placements and gauges, so the choice comes down to which tone suits your existing jewellery and skin tone. Your piercing specialist can show you both finishes side by side.
