SkinKandy's silver-tone hoop collection features cool-toned hoop earrings for lobe, helix, conch and other healed cartilage placements. Rather than genuine sterling silver, these pieces are crafted in Surgical Steel or Titanium with a silver-tone finish, since sterling silver isn't a metal our piercing specialists use for body piercing. This keeps the look of silver while staying within materials that are safe for long-term piercing wear. This collection suits healed piercings you're ready to add a hoop to, rather than fresh ones.
Silver-tone hoops in this collection are made from Surgical Steel or Titanium rather than genuine sterling silver, which can tarnish and isn't recommended for long-term piercing wear. This gives you the cool, silver-like finish without the upkeep or safety concerns that come with sterling silver jewellery. Titanium doesn't carry the trace nickel found in Surgical Steel, making it the better choice if you have sensitive skin. Both materials hold their silver-tone finish well with normal wear.
Hoop sizing depends on placement. Lobe hoops come in a range of diameters to suit personal style, while cartilage hoops for helix and conch are typically 6mm to 10mm in diameter, fitted at 16G. Daith and tragus hoops, when worn as a segment ring, are usually closer to 6mm to 10mm as well. Your piercing specialist will confirm the exact size that suits your specific healed piercing.
Hoops are generally introduced once a piercing is fully healed, rather than fitted as the initial jewellery. Fresh lobe and cartilage piercings are usually fitted with a stud or flatback first, with a hoop style like this one added later. Do not remove your existing jewellery during the healing phase to try on a hoop before your piercing specialist confirms it's ready. Once healed, your piercing specialist can help you choose a hoop that suits your placement.
Clean the piercing as advised by your piercing specialist, using a saline solution rather than any product applied directly to the jewellery. Surgical Steel and Titanium are both corrosion-resistant, so the silver-tone finish holds up well without special polishing. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products coming into contact with the jewellery where possible. This is more low-maintenance than genuine sterling silver, which tends to tarnish over time.
A silver-tone hoop in Surgical Steel or Titanium gives a cool-toned finish that pairs well with other steel or titanium pieces in your stack. A gold hoop in 14K Gold gives a warmer finish and doesn't need re-plating over time, unlike genuine silver. Both are available in similar sizes across lobe and cartilage placements, so the choice comes down to which tone suits your existing jewellery. Your piercing specialist can show you both finishes side by side.
