What’s Your Style – Silver, Rose Gold or Gold?

While there is no hard and fast rule that skin tone and jewellery must match, the same piece of jewellery can look entirely different on one person to another. If you are uncertain, here are some clues that can help you figure out your skin tone.

Your skin tone is warm when:

  • You have black, brown or red hair and your eyes are hazel, green or brown.
  • Your skin rarely burns and tans easily.
  • Your wrists have green veins – also evident in darker skin.

Your skin tone is cool when:

  • Your hair is blond or brown and your eyes are green or blue.
  • Your wrists have blue veins, regardless of skin colour.

Which metal suits you best?

If you have a cool skin tone, silver and white gold looks excellent while rose gold is striking on warm and cool skin tones. Warm skin tones pair well with yellow gold as it really stands out and bring out the shine.

While everybody is familiar with silver and gold, the new kid on the block is rose gold. rose gold is like white gold, an alloy which is a mixture of 25% copper and 75% gold. rose gold encompasses the entire family of pink gold, rose and red gold shades. The higher the amount of copper, the redder the appearance. It is tougher than white or yellow gold and often more affordable due to the addition of copper. It is a romantic metal too, due to its pinkish colour.

It is an excellent material that is stylish for both sexes and compliments most skin tones. Stay clear of rose gold, however, if you have fair skin with red undertones and choose the refreshing look of silver instead.

When all fails and you cannot choose, try mixing and matching. A popular method has been a combination of gold and silver but with the growing popularity of rose gold, you get magnificent pieces that use all three these metals. Rose gold offers the wearer a contemporary statement both worn on its own and alongside gold.
